Should True Blood Book Spoilers Be Allowed in Comments? VOTE!

  • Author: I'm addicted to V | Category: True Blood News

  • As I’m sure most of you know, True Blood is based on the The Southern Vampire Mysteries series of novels by Charlaine Harris.

I personally haven’t read the books (but I surely will when I have more time!) and sometimes when I’m reading through comments on WatchTrueBloodSeries.com I’ll stumble upon people talking about spoilers from the books. The people that comment about the storyline from the books have good intentions but I personally can’t stand reading a spoiler by accident. I’ve also seen comments where people were upset because they read book spoiler by accident ruining the surprise of what may or may not happen on the show.

I know a lot of you have read the books but you have to keep in mind MANY people have not.  I want to leave it up to the community decide on a new rule… PLEASE  VOTE AND SPEAK YOUR MIND IN THE COMMENTS!

UPDATE: First of all, thanks to everyone that voted and commented.  Before making any changes to the site we wanted to ask the community and thanks to the input we came up with a solution to make everyone happy.  We agree that everyone should be able to say what they want, but we also want to protect people from reading spoilers by accident.   We’d like to suggest that anytime you want to talk about a book spoiler to add the word *SPOILER* at the beginning of your comment to warn people.  We added some text right before the comment submit button as a reminder too.  I think this solution is a win-win for everyone!

Should we, the admins, block comments that contain spoilers from the book?

I think it should be okay for them to put spoilers in, but I think that if people have read the books and do want to comment on them leaving a spoiler that they should forewarn the readers. I have read all the books and I make sure that if I am writing an article I put the words “Book Spoiler” in the title. I think it ruins the books if you stumble upon something that happens in say the third book by accident and you haven’t even read the first one yet, I know it would severly tick me off.

The poll is running 50% 50% at this point, this one will be close.

    2. Talena says:

I agree I think as long as you label it as a spoiler it should be ok. I like reading about what has happened in the books and to talk about the diffrences in the show.

    3. Ekzotika says:

I think is bad because the series don´t follow the books so much, and as in my case I haven´t read the books yet and for this I this isn´t cool to comment things from them

    4. Ellen says:

I haven’t read the books, but I am interested in spoilers. I simply would hate it if book spoilers were not allowed.
I really would feel being bullied. :-(

    5. Karina says:

I think book spoilers are fine as long as the person leaving the comment lets others know that there is a spoiler so people don’t just stumble on them. I like spoilers as long as I know that they are coming.

IDK, I think there is something inherient (sp) in human nature to want to know things. Even when there is a warning that the post contains spoilers, most of us who say we don’t want to know will still read it. So I guess that leads me to say leave the spoilers in, give a warning, and allow each individual to decide whether they want to read further.

    7. MichelletheVampire says:

either way… this poll is running pretty damn close… right now its like 51% for the block to 49% against it.

personally, i think that they shouldnt be allowed… or perhaps something that would be a spoiler, could be marked as such and if people wanna read it, they can click to read it from a drop down menu… kinda like Hulu, if anyone who has been on that site to watch shows knows what i mean :)

    8. kathryn says:

I think we should be able to talk about whatever….I stand by my earlier comment that there should be a post for spoilers only. That way if you read it, its your own fault. There could be one each week just as the other posts about the last episode. Label is spoilers and let the people who have read the books have at it.

There should be no reason we can’t talk about it. Whether or not they follow the book to a T, its still based on the books and people are going talk about the differences. How could you not? I think the people who vote no are the ones who maybe haven’t read the books. They see no point in talking about it because for them True Blood is all there is.

Its hard because when you fall in love with a series and it gets put on TV or film you have certain expectations and can be very surprised and sometimes pissed that its not the way you thought or know the first source to be. You want to talk about it with others who feel the same…hense the 51% yes votes right now.

Im babbling now…I say yes but only in a seperate post for spoilers only. Other spoilers should be blocked.

    9. Thanks for your input guys. Read the UPDATE in the original post to see what we came up with as a solution!

i have read every book and the more i see how the books have been raped and ravaged, the plots are NOTHING like the books and i will never watch the series. i tried watching an episode last night with hugo and sookie, the most inane dialog and nothing like the book. i changed tha channel after 5 minutes. if you haven’t read them, do, as they are far superior. plus, i disagree with every casting of the characters, not the least, that tara is black????? eric is not goodlooking enough and puhleeeze… stick with the xmen, girl, she is the worst sookie i could ever imagine. sookie is a natural blonde! well, i just had to let off some steam, i hope all of you who like the series, find out what you are missing and buy a book!

      • Why are you even posting on this website if you dont like the show(not intended to be rude). Of course the True Blood will be different than the books (its like that with any show or movie that is based on a book) but in no way can the books and the show be compared. I agree with you that the Sookie Stackhouse Novels are way different than True Blood but that is what makes the show so good. True Blood is full of refreshing suprises for people who have and haven’t read the books, yet it still follows the main plotline of the books. If the show were to be exactly like the books, it would feel like we’ve read the books for no reason, only to have the book reenacted on the T.V. screen. True Blood would feel redundant and boring for those who have read the books and the show would loose alot of veiwers. In my opinion, I think you should find out what you are missing and watch the show.
