It is not in the early novels that the difference of V users and Sookie is told. But, the author herself does relate in a Q and A that it is in fact the difference between taking the blood from the vamp and taking it from a vial or whatever the drainer provides it in that makes the difference. In a vial, it is outside the vamps body and “ages”. It is also hinted at that the older the blood is, the more likely the user will go crazy. But, someone previously noted that Sookie does still notice some differences. This is in the book form of course. These details are part of what has made me enjoy the book much more, even though I just read them all in the past few weeks. Both are excellent in their own right.

I just finished the first book and am starting on the 2nd. In the books sookie is effected from drinking vampire blood. It changes the way she looks and she becomes more sexually attractive to both vampires and humans. The show has a lot of diffrences compared to the book. And I like sookie in the show better than the book so far… Hopefully it gets better because I bought the first 7?!?

In the books it is clarified that the hallucinagenic effects of V have alot to do with how long the blood has been outside of the vampire. Part of the reason sookie doesn’t “get high” is because she always drinks directly from the vampire.

Bill does drain quite a bit of her blood and she does feel weak after it all, but she takes the Vitamin B-12 every day to replenish her blood. And she doesn’t want to drink his blood normally, she knows it will heal her, and that is why she drinks it when she in injured, but if you remember back to episode one, she doesn’t like the fact that it is sold and used as drugs.

I noticed the first time she drank bill’s blood after she was attacked. It did show her becoming more sexual which is a side effect of drinking vamp blood. It is weird that she doesn’t go crazy like her brother did. He’s part fairy too, isn’t he?
